Sanya and the southern bays
Sanya is a useful starting point for comparing beach stays. Yalong Bay, Dadonghai and Haitang Bay are not interchangeable: compare distances, surroundings and restaurant access. A sea view alone does not guarantee convenient swimming.
Haikou in the north
Consider Haikou for city life, old streets and the northern part of the island. For a short stay, base yourself near your priorities. Do not treat Haikou as a neighbourhood of Sanya.
Before choosing a property
Check the map, not only photographs. Confirm arrangements for foreign guests, facilities, deposits and late arrivals. Make sure the room description applies to the exact category you are booking.
One base or two?
One base reduces packing and transfers. Two can make sense for seeing both north and south on a longer trip. Compare travelling time with sightseeing time; avoid planning daily journeys across the island.
